Private Residence, Yarmouth, Maine
This house, designed for a young couple who relocated to Maine from NYC during the pandemic, sets out to be a decidedly utilitarian modern structure that is space and energy efficient while treading lightly on the natural landscape. The one story design includes an open kitchen living/dining and kitchen area along with two bedrooms, bath and a loft space that can double as additional guest accommodations. Large windows provide ample natural light , and overhead glass doors at each end of the circulation zone between living and sleeping spaces can open up to directly connect the interior to the landscape while capturing summer ocean breezes.
The building has a super-insulated slab on grade with integral radiant heating and high R value walls with high performance windows.
